I once worked in retail. One of the most scathing moments was when I worked for an electronics retailer. We had a few cool chemistry sets. A little girl went apeshit and wanted one bad. What did her mother say? Girls are too stupid to do science. Pick out a doll.

I hate fucking moos like that...I'll bet you anything that girl turns out to be CF. As a kid myself, I had the usual dolls and such, but my parents also gave me Matchbox cars, a microscope and chemistry set, and a typewriter for my 16th birthday. They never once said I was too stupid for science or writing.
Same here. As bad as my mom may have been at parenting, the one thing I do give her credit for is not thinking girls are just meant to be housewives. She didn't care if a toy was marketed toward boys or girls. If Sis or I liked it, we got it. I loved Hot Wheels cars. My sister? Well, she would ask for Barbie dolls...only to strip them down and take them apart limb from limb (Mom swore Sis wanted to be some kind of scientist).
